The Johnson administration claimed US Navy ships were attacked, using this as justification to escalate the Vietnam War. Later evidence suggested this incident was misrepresented, if not fabricated. … During the Cold War, the CIA launched Operation Mockingbird, secretly using journalists and media to spread propaganda and disinformation. Imagine, the news you trusted was actually manipulated by your own government! … In nineteen sixty-eight, the US Army tried to cover up the My Lai Massacre where soldiers killed hundreds of unarmed Vietnamese civilians. This horrific event and its attempted concealment shook the nation's conscience. … The Kennedy administration misled the public about the Bay of Pigs invasion, a failed attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro in Cuba. They denied direct US military involvement and misrepresented the operation's objectives. … For years, the US government conducted a secret bombing campaign in Laos during the Vietnam War hidden from the American public. This Secret War involved covert operations and undisclosed military actions. … But government deception wasn't limited to foreign policy. The FBI's COINTELPRO program involved illegal surveillance and disruption of civil rights groups and activists. … The Tuskegee Syphilis Study, a shameful chapter in medical history, saw the US Public Health Service withhold treatment from African American men with syphilis, even after penicillin became available. … The CIA's MKUltra program conducted experiments on human subjects, often without their knowledge or consent, to explore mind control techniques.
